In August of 2024 Dylan had the chance to finally meet Jose Martinez of Finca El Casino, while on a trip around Huila with Osito Coffee.
A drizzly start to the day meant a slow drive up into the hillsides of Palestina. The last part of the journey was only accessible with 4WD as is often the case when visiting producers and it was a slippery ride for the four of us in the back of the pickup.
Sometimes, when visiting farms you get a real feeling of magic, like this spot is just right - the view, the surrounding lush forest, the silence. It’s peace, complete peace - that thing we don’t get so much of when living in cities.
This farm had that, and it was beautiful all round and I guess you can say that reflects on the coffee produced by Jose and Jose himself.
It’s care for the land, his animals and the product he produces.
Sometimes, when living in this world, these little things are what you need to see you through and keep you going. Just knowing that it exists and that we can share a little part of that. Whatever it is. The magic.
